    Description

Up for your consideration is an antique handcrafted wagon/buggy- patented March 19, 1912 as an improvement in “Wagon Brake”
I initially listed this wagon as a U.S. patent model and someone on eBay reached out to me and indicated that this wagon would be considered a Salesman Sample.
This individual explained that the US Patent Office dropped their requirement for an inventor to submit a “patent model” along with their patent description in 1880. He went on to explain that this cannot be a patent model and instead is probably a one of kind a SALESMAN Sample- He elaborated and explained the wagon was probably used by the inventor himself indicating that the inventor probably carried the wagon around in the wood case and brought it to wagon and buggy dealers.
A SHOUT OUT TO JOHNNY FOR TAKING THE TIME TO REACH OUT TO ME AND SHARE HIS INSIGHT AND WISDOM.
    -------------------------
The wagon is about 6 ¾” in height at its tallest point, which is the top of the back wheel. The length of the wagon at its longest point, is 15”, which is the back of the back wheel to the front of the front wheel.  The depth of the wagon, back wheel to back wheel, is about 8”.  The middle of the wheels protrude, so the depth of the patent model is actually about 1” bigger. The original wooden box for this patent is included in the sale.  As seen in the photo, the box is extremely worn and is cracked in some areas. The box is incomplete, as a piece of the front, top area of the wood is missing.  It also looks like the top of the box is missing a piece of hardware that may have once locked or sealed the box. Also, it appears the box may have once had leather hinges and hardware on the back of the box.  The dimensions of the box are about 16 ½” in length, 8 5/8” in height and 10” in depth.
Please study the photos to view the scattered blemishes and “age spots” as I have carefully taken the pictures to expand on the description, imperfections and details of the piece
Notice the wood and metal show age and wear including paint loss, discoloration, tarnishing, stains, pitting, rust, scratches and other “age spots.” The wagon and box would benefit from a good, thorough cleaning.
As pictured, we have the original patent paperwork and seal.  These items are in extremely worn, fragile condition.  The paper work indicates this patent model is number
    US1020851.
It is impossible to list each and every blemish so kindly enlarge the photos and view the pictures carefully.

A diagram of the patent model and details about the patent can be found here.
I do not know if this patent model is complete.  I’m not trying to mislead anyone, it is just impossible for me to follow the diagram.  Please study the diagram to determine if the patent model is missing pieces
    .
Below is a brief (unedited) excerpt from google patents where the inventor describes the intention of the patent model:
“To all whom it may concern:

This invention relates to improvements in wagon brakes.
The object of the invention is to improve the construction and arrangement of the brake shown in United States Patent No. 629,017 granted to me July 18th, 1899, whereby the same may be employed in connection with a box or body or with a hay rack, and whereby the brake mechanism will be strengthened and the efliciency of the brake increased.”

    A NOTE TO THE BUYER
    - Please unpack this outside. I used some Styrofoam to securely pack this and unpacking it could get a tiny bit MESSY! I’m sorry! (DON'T WORRY- THE STROFOAM IS NOT TOUCHING THE ACTUAL WAGON OR ORIGINAL WAGON BOX...
