recruited to work for Gordon Welchman in Hut 6.
Mavis Batey
, Codebreaker 1940-45 worked for Dilly Knox in Cottage 3 and was a key figure
in codebreaking which led to the victory at the Battle of Cape Matapan; the biggest naval
success since the Battle of Trafalgar.
Oliver Lawn
, Codebreaker from 1940 until 1945, was a mathematician recruited by Gordon Welchman
from Jesus College Cambridge for Hut 6. Oliver worked alongside Alan Turning until
Turning moved over from the Army and Air Force Enigma to the Naval Enigima.
Sheila Lawn
, Codebreaker, was a linguist recruited from Aberdeen University to
work on Hand Codes in Block 3. Sheila met her now husband
Oliver at the Scottish Dancing at Bletchley Park and married in 1948.
John Herivel
