, with its vertical messenger bag design, is reminiscent of the satchels called, "sabretaches" worm by cavalry officers of most European waring nations during the Napoleonic wars. These were worn low, (below the
belt line).
Its structure and aesthetic, particularly the bag's shape, contributes to this historical resemblance.
This Colonel Littleton No. 40, is a combination of expert craftsmanship and quality materials, entirely made in the USA. The Satchel is made from full-grain tanned American hides. Its vertical messenger shape with ample space:
14.5" high, 12.5" wide, and 3" deep
, gives it a rugged and yet elegant, masculine appearance. Weighing 4.2 pounds when empty. Its design includes a solid brass single stud latch, two straps, brass snaps, and a copper and brass tube for the strap and handle, adding to its sturdy and stylish appeal. It has two brass plaques, one to include space for initials if the owner so desires. I did not include my initials. The other show, brand name, USA, and serial number.
The bag's aesthetic appeal is enhanced by the combination of leather, brass, and copper hardware, and is seen as an investment, expected to last for generations.
At this time, January 2024, there does not seem to be any

. offerings on eBay, or Etsy. Also, a searched on Colonel Littleton's web site, yielded no results either.
This satchel was purchased some fifteen years ago. Its Serial Number is, 020.
As you can see from the photos, the condition is excellent.
