    Description

    Two 400 Million Yr Old ORTHOCERAS FOSSILS Hand Shaped + Polished 3 1/4" + 2 3/4"
These are real fossils about 400 million year old of Orthoceras, a primitive ancestral cousin of the squid or octopus.  The orthoceras was similar to an ammonite, but with a straight shell.  It is a white fossil in a black marble matrix that was quarried in Morocco, North Africa in the Atlas Mountains.  The very hard black matrix and fossil have been hand fashioned into tapered shapes.
The orthoceras fossil in the bag is 3 1/4" long and 7/8" across.  It is polished all around and is in excellent condition.  It has a high gloss and no cracks.  The card has the description and facts about this ancient sea creature.
The loose fossil Orthoceras is 2 3/4" long and 1 3/8" across.  It unpolished and rough at the bottom and and part of the sides.  There is a little unpolished part of the top as well.  It is interesting to see on the bottom what the fossil looked like before it was cut and polished.  Please look at the photos.
