DETAILS & CONDITION
Vintage circa 1940's U.S. Defense Bonds heavy cardstock envelope, offered to customers of the Lynchburg Trust and Savings Bank of Lynchburg, Virginia.
Reverse side features a colorful American Eagle and US flag with "The American's Creed" by William Tyler Page (adopted by an act of Congress in April, 1918)
It reads: "I believe in the United States of America, as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a soverign nation of many soveriegn states; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes...
"I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies."
Advertising on the inside flap reads:
"Don't worry about fire or thieves, our modern safety deposit vaults will protect your valuables"
Measures approximately 10" x 4.5" inches. Printed by Smead's Manufacturing, of Hastings, Minnesota.
CONDITION
Envelope only, no contents. Envelope shows general wear; two small tears at folded flap. Flap has been stored flat and is somewhat off-kilter as can be seen in the photos.
